About

Built from Africa, for Africa.

Chia is a subscription billing platform designed for the way Africa pays - mobile money. We make it simple for businesses to collect recurring payments across providers and currencies.

The name

Named after Chia Lagoon.

Chia Lagoon sits on the southwestern shore of Lake Malawi. It is a meeting point - where the lake's open waters flow into a sheltered harbour that fishing communities have relied on for generations.

That idea of connection is the company. As the lagoon connects communities to the lake, Chia connects businesses to Africa's mobile money networks through one platform. The name is a reminder of where we started and who we build for.

What we believe.

i

The phone is the bank

Hundreds of millions of people hold their money in a mobile wallet, not a bank account. Infrastructure should meet them there - not ask them to change.

ii

Recurring beats one-off

Subscriptions are how small businesses become durable ones. The rails for one-time payments exist; the engine for recurring revenue is what was missing.

iii

Boring reliability wins

Billing is trust. We publish our SDK as open source, model failure explicitly in the state machine, and get paid only when our customers do.
